Time is Water When It Comes to Building New Sites Reservoir

Posted In:

Estimates from Sites Reservoir officials show there’s no time to waste in getting this critical water storage project about 70 miles northwest of Sacramento completed. The Bay Area Council has been a strong proponent of the Sites project, including advocating for streamlining legislation that Gov. Newsom signed last year. The estimates from the Sites Project Authority show why. If the reservoir had been in place over the past two years, the massive rains we’ve received would have filled it to 80% capacity. Or, enough water to supply up to 1.2 million homes for a year. All while ensuring sufficient river flows to protect fish and habitat. Construction on Sites is expected to begin this year and be completed by 2030. It can’t happen fast enough.
