CEO Jim Wunderman Announces He is Leaving the Bay Area Council after a Transformative 22-Year Run
Bay Area Council President & CEO Jim Wunderman today informed the organization’s Executive Committee that he will be departing the organization at the end of the year after a remarkable 22 years at the helm. Jim is leaving to lead public affairs for California Forever and will continue his critical and influential work with the Council until Dec. 31.

“The Bay Area Council without Jim is hard to even fathom,” said Kristina Lawson, Council Chair and Managing Partner of Hanson Bridgett. “Over his two decades of leadership of our organization, he’s time and again demonstrated his steady hand, deep institutional knowledge, and a profound commitment to the economic vitality and civic well-being of the Bay Area.
“Over his tenure, Jim has helped guide the Council through complex regional challenges with thoughtfulness, integrity, and an unwavering belief in the power of public-private partnerships.
“Jim spearheaded or partnered in numerous successful ballot measure campaigns that secured tens of billions of dollars for transportation, affordable housing, early education, climate resilience, and healthcare. He advanced the ethos of regionalism and brought us together for a shared agenda. He broadened the Bay Area’s connections to places near and far, from the Central Valley to Asia.

The Executive Committee intends to name an interim CEO in the coming weeks to helm the organization as we complete a thorough, national search for our next leader.
