Redwood City Ferry Terminal Steaming Ahead

Plans for extending regional ferry service to Silicon Valley are accelerating, with Gov. Newsom this week signing budget legislation that includes $5 million requested by Assembly Speaker pro Tem Kevin Mullin to help fund the $21.9 million project. The Bay Area Council applauds Assemblymember Mullin for his leadership in securing funding for this critical project, which local officials have been seeking to make a reality for decades. The proposed terminal in Redwood City would allow the Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA), which the Council created and whose CEO, Jim Wunderman, serves as Chair, to expand service with new routes connecting the Peninsula city with San Francisco and the East Bay. The new funding comes after the Redwood City Port Commission last month approved moving forward with a business plan for the facility.
