Council Statement on Gov. Newsom’s AI Announcement

The Bay Area Council this week (Nov. 21) issued the following statement on Gov. Newsom’s announcement about the release of a new report outlining benefits and risks of generative artificial intelligence (GAI). The report is the first deliverable from an Executive Order on GAI that Gov. Newsom signed in September. “Generative AI has the potential to transform the world, and the Bay Area is leading in developing this exciting technology,” said Jim Wunderman, President and CEO of the Bay Area Council. “We applaud Gov. Newsom for his proactive and thoughtful approach in advancing and growing California’s AI leadership while also working to understand and manage AI’s potential risks and impacts and ensure the responsible development and use of this powerful technology to benefit society and our economy.”
