Bay Area Council Hails Passage of Measure RTM for a Strong Regional Transit System
The Bay Area Council tonight (Nov. 3) hailed the passage of Measure RTM to provide crucial funding for the region’s major transit systems and avoid catastrophic service reductions. The Council was instrumental in the creation and passage of the legislation (SB 63, Wiener/Arreguin) authorizing Measure RTM. And the Council led the charge to include strong reform and accountability measures focused on improving service and fiscal sustainability.
“Bay Area voters rightly and resoundingly recognized that our region can’t function and flourish without a strong transit system and that’s just what the passage of Measure RTM will help ensure,” said Libby Schaaf, President and CEO of the Bay Area Council. “The Bay Area Council was proud to lead the campaign in support of Measure RTM. Our work has only begun. We must stay focused on making our transit systems more efficient, convenient and cost-effective. That’s the promise we made to voters, and we must hold ourselves and our transit agencies accountable for keeping that promise.”
