Celebrating Gender Equity on International Women’s Day

Posted In:

Today (March 8) we celebrate International Women’s Day. The Bay Area Council joins the global community in celebrating the women who support our communities, drive innovation, advance socioeconomic equality, and pave the way for a better future for everyone. There is still much work to do to advance the role of women in the workforce and in top leadership roles. Women are still facing obstacles in getting equal pay for equal work. Some damning statistics to consider:

  • Under the current pace of pay gap change, women will not achieve pay equity until 2059. Black women will wait until 2119, Hispanic women until 2224.
  • Women lose $518 billion in wages each year in pay disparities.
  • As of 2017, women earned only 82 percent of what men earned per year. Women would have to work at least an additional 41 days to recover earned pay.

To help address these issues, you can engage with the Council’s Gender Equity and Diversity Committee. Please contact Senior Policy Associate Naomi Palmer or Policy Associate Amari Cowan.
