Bay Area Council Congratulates Governor-Elect Xavier Becerra on Historic Victory

Bay Area Council President and CEO Libby Schaaf tonight (Nov. 3) issued the following statement on the election of Xavier Becerra as Governor of California:

“On behalf of the Bay Area Council and our member companies, I congratulate Governor-elect Xavier Becerra on his victory and on making history as the first Latino elected governor of California. It’s a milestone that reflects the diversity, ambition and promise of our state, and one that will inspire millions of Californians who see their own story in his.

“Governor-elect Becerra brings deep experience to Sacramento, from the State Assembly and Congress to his service as California’s Attorney General and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. That experience will matter, because California faces serious challenges that demand urgent action. Too many families are being priced out of the state they love. We aren’t building nearly enough housing. And businesses of every size are telling us that the cost and complexity of operating here are pushing growth and jobs elsewhere.

“California remains the world’s leading engine of innovation and technology, and the Bay Area is at its heart. Keeping that leadership is not guaranteed. It requires a partnership between government and business focused on making California more affordable, more competitive and more welcoming to the companies and workers who will shape the next economy.

“The Bay Area Council is eager to work with Governor-elect Becerra and his administration to tackle affordability, accelerate housing production, strengthen our business climate and ensure California continues to lead the world in innovation. We look forward to getting to work.”
