Popular Oakland-Alameda Water Shuttle Extended To 2028 After Record-Setting Two-Year Pilot

Posted In:

The little water shuttle that could will continue to connect Oakland and Alameda after a highly successful two-year pilot run earned it a two-year extension. The Bay Area Council was a strong proponent of launching the commuter service, affectionately named “Woodstock.”

The Alameda City Council recently voted to extend the shuttle service until 2028 after the initial two-year pilot surpassed ridership projections, carrying 251,000 passengers and 60,000 bicycles across the Oakland Estuary. Woodstock provides an alternative to the often-congested tunnels and bridges that connect the two cities across the Oakland-Alameda Estuary. The project is a public-private partnership including San Francisco Bay Ferry (WETA), the Alameda Transportation Management Association (Alameda TMA), and the Port of Oakland.
