Advocacy Pays Off on Peninsula Express Lane Project

Posted In:

Easing traffic on one of the Bay Area’s most economically productive corridors through Silicon Valley has long been one of the Bay Area Council’s leading priorities. So, we were thrilled to see our many years of advocacy pay off with the start recently of construction on the San Mateo 101 Express Lanes project, which will reduce traffic congestion and encourage carpooling and transit use on U.S. 101 in San Mateo County.

The project will create 22 miles of express lanes on U.S. 101 from I-380 in San Bruno to the San Mateo County/Santa Clara County border. The San Mateo 101 Express Lanes will then seamlessly connect to express lanes being constructed in Santa Clara County. Construction is expected to occur between 2019 and 2022.
