Council Launches Tech & Innovation Committee to Focus on Advancing California AI Leadership
The Bay Area Council last week launched its Technology and Innovation Committee to promote policies, rules and regulations at all levels of government that support the development and deployment of cutting-edge technologies. Behind the leadership of Co-Chairs Mitra Rogers of AWS, Lauren Kimzey of PayPal and Javier González of Google, the Committee will work to champion the Bay Area’s AI leadership, accelerate and expand data center capacity, support frontier technologies, support access to global talent, advocate for strengthened science and research investment, and promote sensible data privacy and cybersecurity rules, among others.

To effectively advocate on behalf of our important innovation ecosystem, the Committee will leverage the Council’s historical success in educating policymakers about salient technologies, serve as a thought-leader in curating information to inform policy discussions, lead coalitions to amplify member priorities and serve as a resource for the public and media on timely issues.
Next year’s Congressional midterm and gubernatorial races will likely spotlight tech policy issues around AI, energy resourcing and online security. The state is also likely to confront bills around autonomous vehicle restrictions, changes to historical antitrust law and possible revisions to data privacy. The Committee is well positioned to address these matters and deliver for our innovation economy.
