Splish, Splash. Wunderman Gets Dunked to Support Youth After-School Programs for Kids in Need

Jim Wunderman usually stays dry when he’s doing his work as CEO of the Bay Area Council aboard our floating headquarters, the Klamath, or as Chair of regional water transit system SF Bay Ferry. But last week (Oct. 9) Wunderman got quite wet when he volunteered to be “dunked” in the pool at the Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco to raise money for the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation and the after-school programs it provides to needy kids in the neighborhood.
Wunderman was honored to participate in what was the final year of the iconic 32-year event at the Phoenix Hotel that has dunked such luminaries as Robin Williams and SF 49ers star running back Roger Craig. While this was the last year at the Phoenix for this joyous San Francisco tradition, organizers are searching for a new venue to continue into the future. This may not be Wunderman’s last dunk. He’s volunteered several times over the years to take the plunge. The event Thursday raised more than $300,000.
“I knew this was the last time they might do it here,” Wunderman told The Examiner. “So I said, ‘I’ll do it.’ I’ve supported this in different ways for a long time.”
