Exciting New Details Emerge for California Forever in Solano County

A bold and exciting vision to dramatically expand Suisun City in Solano County, including creating a new advanced manufacturing facility and separate national shipbuilding and maritime hub, came into clearer focus this week when Bay Area Council member California Forever submitted detailed plans giving more insight into what the transformative development will eventually look like.

California Forever Founder and CEO Jan Sramek announced the plans yesterday (Oct. 14) in a lengthy X post that highlighted what he called “the next great American city, an hour north of Silicon Valley, including: Solano Foundry, America’s largest manufacturing park, Solano Shipyard, our largest shipyard, and walkable neighborhoods for 400,000 Californians… California used to do big things. From rockets in the Mojave to chips in Silicon Valley, California dreamed. California designed. California built. But then we stopped. To lead again, we need a place that can capture the imagination of the nation. Solano can be that place.”

The Council has been deeply engaged with California Forever as it moves its plans forward. A study the Bay Area Council Economic Institute produced in 2024 outlined the huge economic benefits, including the creation of thousands of jobs across a wide range of skills and incomes, that even an earlier, smaller version of the plan would generate. Much work and many approvals remain in bringing California Forever’s visionary plans to life and the Council is excited to support this important and valuable work.
