Council Advocates for Megaregion Dozen Transportation Projects

Last Friday, the Megaregion Working Group – comprised of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Sacramento Area Council of Governments, and San Joaquin Council of Governments – set in motion a plan to jointly support 12 megaregional infrastructure projects. These projects include important Bay Area Council priorities, such as the ValleyLink rail connecting the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station to Stockton and express lanes that span the megaregion. The three agencies committed to work together to support funding applications for the “Megaregion Dozen” in state and federal infrastructure programs, and the Bay Area Council will be by their side to amplify these asks.

The Working Group also discussed preliminary results of new research from UC Davis, USC, and Occidental College on Bay Area migration patterns to the Central Valley, which builds on the extensive research done by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute to define the megaregion and to understand commuting patterns within it. To engage in the Bay Area Council’s Northern California Megaregion work, please contact Economic Institute Executive Director Jeff Bellisario.
