Coronavirus: Keep Calm and Wash Your Hands
The Bay Area Council is aware and takes seriously the growing spread of the coronavirus, its threat to public health and its impact on business and other activities. We’re also aware that some of our member companies and others are choosing to cancel or postpone meetings and other large conferences and events. And a number are encouraging their employees to work from home and limit travel.
For now, the Bay Area Council is not cancelling any of our meetings or events. However, we will continue providing remote/virtual access to accommodate those who are choosing not to attend the functions in person. And we’ll be taking special precautions during our meetings and events to follow best hygiene practices for avoiding unnecessary contacts. If the situation changes and we cannot host these functions safely, we will adjust our plans and keep you informed of those decisions along the way.
For those attending all Bay Area Council events, we suggest the following guidelines:
- Do not attend a Council event if you are sick or becoming sick
- Wash your hands frequently, with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after arriving
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away and wash your hands
- Cough/sneeze into your elbow, not your hands. Use tissues
The Bay Area Council is following the lead of the state Department of Public Health in urging our member companies and the public to avoid panic while taking every precaution to practice robust hygiene, identify symptoms early and take immediate action when symptoms appear and decide whether you need to make any changes in your workplace practices. Good information is the best remedy for ensuring an effective response.
