Member Spotlight: San Jose Clean Energy Focused on Decarbonization
San José Clean Energy (SJCE) Director Lori Mitchell recently joined KQED Forum’s Flipping the Switch for a discussion on California’s progress toward its decarbonization goals and the pivotal role local energy programs are playing in advancing that work. Lori joined California Energy Commission Vice Chair Siva Gunda, NRDC California Policy Director for Climate & Energy Merrian Borgeson, and host Laura Klivans to explore how California can continue moving toward a clean energy future while keeping the transition accessible and affordable.
Lori highlighted how San José is already putting those goals into action. SJCE supplies 62% renewable and 93% carbon-free electricity to approximately 350,000 homes and businesses, meeting the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard six years ahead of schedule. For San José businesses, choosing SJCE is a simple way to support sustainability goals while benefiting from competitively priced clean energy.
Lori also discussed how community choice aggregators play a role in procuring clean energy and creating programs tailored to local needs. In San José, that includes programs supporting home electrification, heat pump installations, electric vehicles, and emerging solutions such as balcony solar that could expand access to clean energy for renters.
