Bay Area Council Hosts AI Policy Leaders for Critical Discussion on Global Regulation
Over a hundred Bay Area Council members gathered on the historic Klamath today (March 5) for a timely and thought-provoking discussion on the future of AI regulation, co-hosted with the UC Berkeley Center for Security in Politics and moderated by Bay Area Council Economic Institute Senior Director Sean Randolph. The event featured a keynote address from Director of the Center for Security in Politics and former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, followed by a panel featuring Dr. Alice Hunt Friend, Head of AI & Emerging Tech Policy at Google, Rachael Kells, Chief of Staff for the UK Tech Envoy, and Paula Goldman, Chief Ethical and Humane Use Officer and EVP of Product at Salesforce, bringing together key voices from government, industry, and academia.
The conversation centered on the global challenges of AI governance, including the risks of regulatory fragmentation, the evidence dilemma facing policymakers, and the need for transparency, interoperability, and international collaboration, especially through forums like APEC.
The Bay Area’s business leadership remains vital in shaping the global AI conversation. As AI policy continues to evolve, the Bay Area Council will continue convening the leading minds in policy and innovation to drive solutions that balance innovation with responsible governance. Stay tuned for future events as we continue to lead in this space and crescendo to our involvement at APEC 2025 in South Korea!
