Description

The Bay Area Council’s 11th annual Chinese New Year Celebration will take place virtually on Wednesday, March 10 from 5pm-6:30pm Pacific. We’ll be honoring former Governor Jerry Brown with the Bay Area Council Global Leadership Award for his contributions to Sino-California relations both during his political career and after. Governor Brown’s leadership in engaging with China on trade and climate action during his second term has shaped many of the priorities of our own China Initiative. The Bay Area Council partnered with Gov. Brown’s administration to open the California-China Trade and Investment Office in Shanghai.

More recently, Gov. Brown established the California-China Climate Institute at the University of California Berkeley, fulfilling his 2017 MOU with our sister province of Jiangsu to take substantive action on climate cooperation with China. We are excited to recognize his contributions this year as we follow his lead in making climate change a cornerstone of our work in China going into the Year of the Ox.

We are also excited to welcome San Francisco Mayor London Breed, California State Controller Betty Yee, Chinese Consul General Wang Donghua, Assemblymember Phil Ting, and Chef Martin Yan as featured speakers, with additional guests to be announced soon.
