Climate Task Force Explores Emissions Reduction Strategies at State-of-the-Art Bayer Facility

On June 11, the Bay Area Council’s Climate Change Mitigation Task Force convened at Bayer’s new Cell Therapy Launch and Manufacturing Facility in Berkeley—a state-of-the-art, LEED Platinum-certified project that sets a new standard for sustainable industrial development. Hosted by Bayer, the meeting brought together business leaders, sustainability experts, and policymakers to explore bold strategies for reducing regional emissions and scaling clean technologies.
This was the first meeting under the leadership of newly appointed Co-Chairs Nathan Fleischer of Apple and Regina Donaldson of Bayer, who outlined their vision for the Task Force and led a robust discussion on how the Bay Area can continue to lead the transition to a post-carbon economy. The committee discussed identifying new emissions reduction areas, educating policymakers, and how regulatory reforms can accelerate emissions reductions while supporting economic growth and innovation.
Following the strategy session, attendees toured Bayer’s cutting-edge facility, gaining insight into the company’s approach to sustainability, the innovative technologies embedded in the design, and the complex development challenges the project team successfully navigated. The event highlighted the critical role of leadership and collaboration in building a clean energy future—and the tangible steps companies are taking to make that vision a reality.
