COUNCIL PREPARES FOR TRANSPORTATION CONFERENCE COMMITTEE

The Bay Area Council on Wednesday (Sept. 23) held a Joint Government Relations and Transportation Committee meeting with California State Senator Beall, Chairman of the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee (D-San Jose). The Senator provided members with an update on key state transportation policy initiatives this past year in Sacramento. He also discussed the transition of the Special Legislative Session on Transportation into a Conference Committee so that Legislators can continue to work on finding solutions to funding infrastructure improvement.

Members also heard from Randell H. Iwasaki, P.E., Executive Director of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority. Iwasaki provided an overview of the major functions of the authority, ferry service in Richmond, major transportation projects in the region and steps Contra Costa is taking in order to become the epicenter for research, testing and development of autonomous cars. The Council thanks member company CSAA, an AAA insurer for hosting the meeting at their corporate offices in Walnut Creek.
