NCAN Pays Visit to Inspiring Shipbuilding Apprenticeship Program

As the Northern California Apprenticeship Network (NCAN) prepares for its end-of-year reflections on supporting apprenticeships in Northern California, the team paid a visit to an inspiring apprenticeship site that embodies the power of Apprenticeship as a workforce development model.
With the rise of interest in Bay Area shipbuilding, the small but mighty Spaulding Boatworks has built a well-oiled apprenticeship program, taking on as many apprentices each year as they have employees and cultivating a strong hiring pool with even stronger retention rates.

Apprenticeship programs like this support the undercurrent of shipbuilding innovation in the Bay Area that continues to grow. Cal Poly Maritime Academy’s new leadership and groups like the Working Waterfront Coalition will be key players in the industry’s success to help feed breakthrough tech companies like Bay Area Council member Navier and the novel approach of the California Forever initiative.
NCAN is always open to supporting the apprenticeship ecosystem. Here’s what’s coming up next:
