Big Giants Win Highlights Engaging Annual Meeting of Members

Thank you to everyone in-person and online who joined the Bay Area Council’s Annual Meeting of Members & Giants Game at Oracle Park yesterday (Sept. 10). It’s one of our favorite gatherings of the year when we get to celebrate the leaders and organizations that power our work. Thank you to the San Francisco Giants, Giants CEO and Bay Area Council Executive Committee member Larry Baer for hosting us and to Giants Chief Development Officer Jack Bair for briefing our members on the Giants’ season and other activities.

We extend a special thank you to San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie for joining us and briefing us on his exciting “Family Zoning Plan” to bring more affordable housing to the city. The Council fully supports this important plan and encourages our members to voice their support to counter anti-housing critics. Mayor Lurie also discussed a new initiative—Heart of the City—he unveiled just ahead of our meeting to accelerate and expand the successful work he has been doing to revitalize the city’s downtown.

Members were also treated to a dynamic conversation Council CEO Jim Wunderman led with journalistic powerhouses Marisa Lagos of KQED and Dan Walters of CalMatters on Gov. Newsom’s priorities, including his redistricting measure (Prop. 50) and his spicy exchanges on social media with President Trump that are fueling speculation of a possible 2026 run. Lagos and Walters also shared insights on machinations in the Legislature and issues like housing and homelessness that continue to bedevil the state.

We ended the evening on a high note with a Giants win over the Diamondbacks to continue a torrid run in the past two weeks as they make a big push for the postseason! The perfect way to cap off a great day of conversation and connection.
