Shadowing World-Class Pediatric Care at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital

On November 6 and 7, the Bay Area Council was proud to participate in this year’s cohort of Packard 101, which brings elected officials, community and business leaders to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford for an intensive day of shadowing medical and allied health care professionals. Participants spend one-on-one time with members of the faculty, observing staff and patient interactions as they round with health care professionals in a variety of areas and are encouraged to ask questions and comment freely while accompanying faculty on rotations.

Council Vice President Patrick Kallerman accompanied Stanford Medicine professionals throughout the nationally-ranked Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, observing how world-renowned Stanford expertise and innovation are brought to families near and far. Participants also heard from Paul A. King, CEO of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, Yvonne Maleonado, Taube Professor of Global Health and Infectious Diseases, and Melissa Scala, Clinical Professor of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

At a time when significant cuts are being made to safety-net hospitals like Lucile Packard Children’s, it’s important to remember what makes it such an irreplaceable asset to the region, and the world.
