HOUSING COMMITTEE READIES SOLUTIONS TO HOUSING SHORTAGE

The region faces an unprecedented housing crisis that impacts every family, worker and company. Job growth is dramatically outpacing housing production and the region’s workforce is commuting longer from further and paying a greater share of household income for housing. Current strategies to address the problem are coming up short.

Against that gloomy backdrop, regional housing leaders met this week to put the finishing touches on the Bay Area Council’s 2016 Housing Strategy. The Council’s Housing and Sustainable Development Committee under the leadership of Co-Chairs Kofi Bonner of Lennar Urban and Denise Pinkston of TMG Partners has developed a raft of innovative solutions to disrupt the traditional housing production model. The multipronged approach will be rolled out in the upcoming year and strives to increase the housing supply substantially using outside-the-box solutions. These new approaches will be critical to significantly disrupt the sluggish housing production of the Bay Area.
