China International Import Expo: California Pavilion
For the past three years, the Bay Area Council hosted
California Pavilion at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. California Pavilion is an exclusive opportunity for California-based companies to promote their products and services at the largest import exhibition in the world.
In 2019, the Council’s California Pavilion, whose lead sponsors included Impossible Foods and Baxco Pharmaceuticals, featured more than 20 California companies showcasing a wide range of products and services. Impossible Foods was a big star of the show, making their debut in China with celebrity master chef Jereme Leung serving up samples of the company’s plant-based meats to excited throngs of hungry attendees.
In 2020, California Pavilion hosted Royal Business Bank, Sacramento MBDA Export Center, Port of Oakland, MEBO International, Fresno EDC and other California companies. During the opening ceremony, representatives from the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, San Francisco Mayor’s Office of International Trade and Commerce, U.S.-China relations champion Florence Fang, City of Los Angeles, Alameda County, Sacramento MBDA Export Center, Port of Oakland, and Fresno EDC provided video remarks emphasizing the importance of trade between California and China.
