Council Voices Support for USMCA Renewal
The Bay Area Council has joined other leading business organizations across the country in a joint letter of support for the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the successor agreement to NAFTA that supports an integrated North American market. Addressed to Congress and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, the letter documents the jobs that U.S. trade with Mexico and Canada support and the strategic importance of an integrated North American economy in the face of rising global competition and economic challenges from China.
The USMCA, which took effect in July 2020, provides for a mandatory review in July 2026 to determine whether the agreement should be continued, modified, or ended. USTR has solicited preliminary business views and has scheduled informational hearings in advance of the formal review process.
