Chicago Delegation: Powering the Future

Letter from the CEO

Dear Delegates,

Since the advent of generative AI, many have viewed its surging energy demands as a crisis—one that could jeopardize California’s climate goals and strain our electric grid. At the Bay Area Council, we see things differently. Where others see risk, we see possibility. California has long led the world in meeting complex challenges with bold innovation, and this moment demands nothing less. By unlocking clean, reliable, and affordable energy, we can power the next era of computing while advancing our climate ambitions and strengthening our economy.

It is with this purpose that the Bay Area Council is convening our upcoming delegation. Beginning with a visit to the Diablo Canyon Power Plant and continuing on to Chicago, we will engage directly with energy and technology leaders to explore how smart policy, strategic investment, and breakthrough innovation can come together to meet rising demand. Along the way, we will examine the pivotal roles of AI, data centers, nuclear energy, quantum computing, and other technologies that are shaping the future.

At its heart, this trip is about more than energy. It is about fostering innovation, catalyzing economic growth, and ensuring California remains a global leader at the nexus of clean energy and technology.

We are deeply grateful for your participation and look forward to the insights, partnerships, and momentum that this delegation will generate.

Sincerely,

Jim Wunderman
President & CEO
Bay Area Council
