Water has always been the most precious commodity of economic growth in California, the lack of water always the most difficult barrier. California’s economy depends on a reliable, affordable, adequate supply of high-quality water. Adequate supplies are currently maintained only by intensive management of complex, overtaxed, and aging water infrastructure. By 2020, California’s population is projected to grow almost 50 percent, to more than 47 million people.
The Water Policy Committee recognizes that water is a statewide issue and as such solutions will need to be crafted at the state level.
Current Priorities
1. Engage northern California business leaders with other key water and environmental stakeholders from northern California to be able to provide a united voice in the state deliberations around ecosystem restoration in the Bay-Delta estuary system while developing a sustainable and reliable water supply to meet the demands of the this and future generations of Californians and the aquatic life that inhabit the Bay Delta
2. Build relationships with the Southern California business and water stakeholders to identify a common agenda to break through the inertia of making water infrastructure investments in conveyance, storage, and conservation for a sustainable future.
