The Transportation Committee advances Bay Area
Council leadership on transportation issues by:

  • Identifying critical transportation issues that the Committee can impact through advocacy.
  • Sharing information and updates on important transportation issues.
  • Providing a forum to meet, and share our views, with key public officials.
  • Making recommendations on key transportation measures to the Council’s Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and/or membership.
  • Supporting public awareness opportunities for key transportation issues.

Current Priorities
The Transportation Committee has identified three transportation issues on which it intends to lead in 2008:

  • Transportation reform, including Performance Based Infrastructure.
  • Securing responsible use of Proposition 1B transportation bond funds, focusing particularly on the $2 billion Trade Corridor Improvement Fund.
  • Advocate inclusion of Bay Area Council transportation policies in the "Transportation 2035" plan being developed by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

In addition, the Transportation Committee has determined that it will monitor five issues and will engage on them as appropriate, based on developments:

  • Implementation of new Water Emergency Transportation Authority.
  • Regional airport system planning.
  • Reauthorization of federal transportation act.
  • Regional and High Speed Rail
  • Proposed state legislation for carbon fee on motor fuel purchase and use.
