Access to Resources is a series of workshops developed by Alliance for Community Development and the Bay Area Family of Funds. With the help of corporate and community partners, these workshops bring vital information to the working poor and their families, covering topics such as money management, cost savings through various utilities andtelecommunications programs, healthcare, and opportunities for higher education.
In today’s world, having accurate information about basic services and understanding where to go for day-to-day consumer issues is essential knowledge, but significantly lacking among residents in low-and moderate- income communities. Many have very limited, and often inaccurate, information on these topics and may not even be aware of beneficial services and resources that exist. This lack of information increases their daily living expenses and is a serious obstacle to the improvement of their income and life opportunities.
These workshops are designed to deliver information about programs targeted to the needs of these LMI communities: energy savings programs, low-cost telephone/internet services, asset building, credit management, small business borrowing, corporate vendor opportunities, employment training, healthcare, and educational financial aid resources. Where possible, these workshops will be held in or near the neighborhoods where the Bay Area Smart Growth Fund and the Bay Area Equity fund have made investments, to maximize the local impact to the residents of these communities.
