BACIN: Oakland Partnership Green Finance Network

The Green Finance Network is one of the first implementation initiatives to be launched by the Oakland Partnership, a public private collaboration of government, business, education, labor, and the community to promote green businesses. It is co-sponsored by the Bay Area Council and the Bay Area Community Investment Network and coordinated by Sustainable Systems, and this first meeting featured Mayor Ronald Dellums from the City of Oakland.

2007 Bay Area Ross Program in Real Estate Awards Ceremony

This event marked the completion of an intensive 2-week executive training program with this ceremony to highlight the accomplishments of the Bay Area Ross Program in Real Estate Class of 2007. The program brought together a diverse class of participants who learned from USC faculty and over 40 Bay Area industry leaders in the field of urban development and revitalization. Natalie Berg, Regional VP of Forest City presented the keynote at this celebration.

Captial Connections II: Investment and Business Resources for Companies in Urban Markets

The second in a series of region-wide conferences to provide critical business and financial information to urban entrepreneurs, Capital Connections II drew from the growing pool of Hispanic business leaders in the Greater Bay Area. It provided an intensive one-day introduction to the financial resources and management tools necessary to take growth companies to the next level.

2007 Bay Area Council Scholarship Awards Reception

This special event honored the 2007 class of Bay Area Council Scholars.. These are students who have overcome tremendous obstacles and, despite the odds have demonstrated both an amazing potential to succeed and a passion for giving back to their communities. Bill Spain of Del Monte Foods presented the awards and welcomed back Scholars from the class of 2006 as well.

Captial Connections I: Investment and Business Resources for Inner-City Businesses

This Bay Area region-wide conference series provides critical business and financial information to companies located in or near LMI urban core areas who are interested in Double Bottom Line investment performance goals. Geared towards businesses and CEOs that have had some success in the marketplace and towards start-ups that have developed innovative business models, "Captial Connections" provided an intensive one-day introduction to the financial resources and management tools necessary to take these companies to the next level.

Bay Area Community Investment Network (BACIN)

At this meeting, City of Alameda Mayor Beverly Johnson, City Manager Debra Kurita and Development Services Department Director Leslie Little presented City policies and perspectives on growth and development in Alameda. The deals reviewed included The Black Hole, Mom Inventors, Inc., and NetClearly. The Black Hole, LLC, officially licensed by the NFL and the Oakland Raiders, offers merchandise through retail distribution and manufacturing in the Bay Area, fan organization membership and chapter affiliation to fans, while being committed to inner city training and hiring, after school sports and necessarily, a Bay Area headquarters. Mom Inventors, Inc. was founded as a community of "moms helping moms", taking the innovative ideas of mothers to the marketplace. NetClearly is "the consumer's guide to the internet", utilizing its rating of unique criteria in order to deliver timely and relevant information to consumers from a wide variety of web sites.

2006 BAC Scholarship Awards Reception

The Bay Area Council is proud to launch a scholarship program to support underserved students from low- and moderate-income neighborhoods in their upcoming college careers. This reception honored our 2006 Bay Area Council Scholars, an amazing group of students with promise and a passion to give back to their communities. Bay Area Council members, investors in the Bay Area Family of Funds, and supporters had a chance to get to know these students, their families, and their mentors at this event, which featured Andy Ball, President and CEO of Webcor Builders.

Representatives from the City of Richmond presented City policies and perspectives on growth and development in Richmond. The deals presented at the meeting were investment and lending opportunities that seek to expand into Richmond, which included Casa Chicas, Wine.com and Mobile CANDY Dish. Casa Chicas is a family-owned food production company currently located in San Pablo. Wine.com is the well-known leading online retailer providing doorstep delivery, seeking to establish a local distribution center. Mobile CANDY Dish is a provider of entertainment content for mobile phones, currently located in Berkeley.

Access to Resources
Date: May 13-14, 2006
Location: San Jose, CA

This Access to Resources workshop partnered with Neighborhood Housing Services of Silicon Valley to address South Bay residents at an Affordable Housing Fair. Bank representatives conducted workshops on understanding credit scores and the process for securing mortgage loans for new and prospective home buyers.

This kickoff event for Access to Resources was also the inaugural event for the newly built Bayanihan Community Center in San Francisco. Co-sponsored by the Alliance for Community Development, Filipino American Development Foundation, Filipino Community Center, Southeast Asian Community Center, and Bay Area Council, this workshop addressed residents in the South of Market area, introducing them to a number of programs around cost savings for utilities, accessing healthcare, financial management, and opportunities for higher education.
