Bay Area Council Lauds Historic Groundwater Management Legislation

Bay Area Council President and CEO Jim Wunderman today joined Gov. Jerry Brown and a group of elected, business and environmental leaders as the Governor signed historic legislation that for the first time will require more active management of the state’s groundwater. The Bay Area Council was a strong advocate for the three bills the Governor is signing today, including SB 1168 and SB 1319 by Sen. Fran Pavley and AB 1739 by Assembly member Roger Dickinson.

“Unlimited groundwater drilling is not sustainable for California, economically or environmentally,” Wunderman said. “As California confronts historic drought, it is vital that we better manage not only the limited water we have above ground, but the dwindling stores beneath the surface. We applaud Governor Brown for signing these important bills to protect one of California’s vital water savings accounts.”
