Born in Illinois, Broder grew up outside Washington, D.C. in Arlington, Virginia. He learned grassroots politics firsthand as a youthful volunteer in countless local campaigns, under the tutelage of his mother, an activist and member of the County School Board.
At the University of Wisconsin, Madison, as a Political Science Major he balanced academia with practical experience in the State Capitol. Jobs in the Governor's Office as a Press Assistant and manager of a statewide Supreme Court Judicial race were complemented by a one-year break for a Presidential campaign in 1976.
He moved to Los Angeles in 1981 to join the team being assembled by Peter V. Ueberroth at the Organizing Committee for the 1984 Olympic Games. As a Deputy Press Secretary he served as an official spokesman for the Committee and was heavily involved in the development and implementation of the local, national and international media strategy for the first privately financed Olympics in history.
After the Games, he moved north to San Francisco as a Special Assistant in the Office of Mayor Dianne Feinstein. With his diverse talents, Broder performed a variety of functions including speech writing, issue assessment, policy analysis, inter-governmental liaison and special projects like the Papal visit and 50th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Following the end of Feinstein's second term, Broder went back to the private sector with Patrick Media Group/Eller Media (now Clear Channel Outdoor), the nation's largest outdoor advertising company. As Vice President/Public Affairs - California, Broder expanded his expertise with a variety of successful endeavors throughout the Bay Area and the State Capitol.
In 1999, after a decade with Eller Media, Broder formed George Broder Group, LLC.
