April 9th - 13th, 2011
There are many reasons why Bay Area companies have decided now is the time to expand in China. With the country’s stunning economic growth, its rapidly expanding middle class, escalating demand and premium pricing for Bay Area or American products and services, and the need to be in China in this evermore globalized business world – it’s no wonder. Liberalization and increased investment in the markets for healthcare and life sciences make this a particularly exciting time.
Like any new market, business in China comes with challenges. Relationship management is a critical competence, as are strategies to get comfortable with a new business culture and operate in a different language. Numerous Bay Area firms have already braved China and found it an exhilarating, profitable market for their companies, and the Bay Area Council is excited to help more organizations do so.
We hope you join us on this trade mission to learn how to expand in China, take advantage of new opportunities coming from China's healthcare reform and growing capabilities in life sciences R&D, and building relationships to successfully land in China; plus, have a good time.
This program is built with health care and life sciences professionals in mind. Our core programming will take place on April 10-13, with a welcome reception the night of April 9. On April 10, we will be participating in the annual meeting of Bay Helix, a Bay Area Council member organization and the preeminent professional association of Chinese and Chinese American life science leaders worldwide. The balance of the program – April 11-13 – will be spent in private meetings with government, business and academic leaders in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region. We will also utilize “downtime” during meals to invite participation of experienced expats and local businessmen to provide candid feedback on challenging issues such as hiring, protecting IP, building a brand, and brokering new relationships in the public and private sectors.
