BAC Cloud Computing Trip to China

Shanghai & Hangzhou

CLOUD COMPUTING AND CHINA

We hope you join us on this trade mission to Shanghai to explore China's new policies and programs designed to encourage U.S. cloud computing companies expanding into China. Delegates will meet with potential partners, customers, and get to know the key government leaders supporting
this industry.

Cloud computing is coming to China in a big way. Both China's 12th Five-Year Plan and publications by the State Council have made it clear that cloud computing will be a crucial part of the next-generation information technology industry in China.  Official estimates suggest that by the end of 2015 the sector may create a market valued at 750 billion to one trillion RMB, taking up a share of over 15 percent in the strategic emerging industries. As a result, there is strong competition in China’s five designated cloud cities – Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Wuxi – to attract the best companies both inside and outside China.

Cloud computing is in its infancy in China. Relationship management is critical to leveraging opportunities for driving your business. The Bay Area Council has built strong ties to help navigate the culture and language barrier. Numerous Bay Area firms have already braved China and found it an exhilarating, profitable market for their companies. The Bay Area Council is excited to help more organizations do so.

Program

This program is built with cloud computing companies and professionals in mind.  Our core programming will take place from October 17 – 21, beginning with a welcome reception the night of October 17 and ending with a dinner with a special guest. In the time span of five days, through individual meetings, conferences, company tours, and in-depth, interactive presentations, delegates will learn about the Chinese market, meet potential customers and partners, talk with established Bay Area businesses like Intel, Oracle, Deloitte, and Silicon Valley Bank, and otherwise prepare to expand their business or knowledge in China.

The Bay Area Council will demonstrate the platform it has built in partnership with the Yangpu District Government in Shanghai that accelerates California businesses. We will hold several meetings with government, business and academic leaders in Shanghai, highlighting two districts – Yangpu and Pudong – where companies can find strong state and university support for their growth. You will visit Chinese companies actively seeking foreign partners, academic leaders and meet government representatives who can help your company access favorable policies for talent, real estate, taxation, and investment. Delegates will also get first look at: Yangpu Cloud Center, Yangpu Cloud Demonstration Center (to be completed in 2012), the Business Accelerator Building, and the BAC Digitization High Tech Park (first ever in China).

Finally, on October 20, we will travel to Hangzhou, another designated cloud computing center in the Yangtze River Delta region, to get a better idea of what business opportunities look like in China’s second-tier cities as presented by both government and companies.  You will learn more about the city’s tentative plans to build an infrastructure and energy-focused cloud cluster with companies like Alipay, Taobao, GE, China Telecom, and others.

We will also utilize “downtime” during meals and receptions to invite participation of experienced expats and local business people to provide analysis on market trends and candid feedback on challenging issues such as hiring, protecting IP, building a brand, and brokering new relationships in the public and private sectors.
