The Bay Area Council works to educate ourselves and others on the status of healthcare in California and advocates for programs that hold promise of improving quality and bringing costs under control.
Millions of lower- and middle-class Californians risk their financial and literal lives with no health insurance coverage; governments and businesses are breaking under the crushing weight of escalating healthcare costs; and the situation worsens significantly each year. The federal government has failed to act. It falls upon California to lead to a solution on health care access and financing reform. The stakes are high and demand that we get it right. The worst possible situation, and the most expensive option, is that we do nothing. The status quo is not acceptable.
Chairperson: Greg Adams, President Northern California, Kaiser Foundation Health Plans and Hospitals
The Healthcare Committee is working on statewide health reform. We work to educate ourselves and others on the status of health care in California and on its cost drivers. We advocate in particular for programs and practices that hold promise of improving quality and bringing costs under control. The Committee, independently and as a coalition member, provides inputs to the Governor and into the legislative process.
